Knockout Punch: New Isuzu F Series Models Hit Operational Sweet Spot

December 15, 2025

With a selection of all-new MY25 medium-duty F Series models already on sale across Australia, Isuzu Trucks is delivering the knock-out punch with the release of its next round of models including the 4-cylinder F Series range.

Including popular variants from the FRR, FSR, FRD and FSD line-ups plus the FSS 4x4, the brand’s phase-two launch completes the circle from a medium-duty perspective.

Capturing the 11 to 14 tonne Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) band, the 2025 F Series release broadens opportunities for a wide variety of applications and industries across the country.

Reflecting on the sustained demand throughout this weight category, Isuzu Australia Limited’s (IAL) Head of Sales, Craig White, said the versatility of this model release was a crucial ingredient.

Problem solved with Isuzu's new MY25 4-cylinder F Series.

The sweet spot

“Our four-cylinder F Series release has been highly anticipated, both from an OE point of view and for our many customers in this market segment.

“These models really are the operational ‘sweet-spot’ for so many general and hub & spoke freight applications, so we’re thrilled to see them in the country and on-grass in dealerships across the country,” he said.

“Taking into account critical factors such as engine output, payloads and wheelbase options, the flexibility and adaptability of these models can’t be understated.

“They represent the backbone of what’s required to continue to tackle Australia’s surging freight task. Add to that the heady mix of features and benefits found throughout this release and we’re confident we’ve got the answers in the form of these all-new models.”

Release highlights

  • FRR, FSR, FSD, FRD. FSS (4-Cyl) released
  • GVM range 11,000 -14,000 kg
  • Crew Cab, 4x4, suspension variants and multiple wheelbase options

Range

The phase-two F Series encompass a pivotal GVM spectrum, commencing at 11,000 kilograms with its FRR and FRD models along with the FSS 4X4, and culminating at 14,000 kilograms with the FSR and FSD variants.

This sought-after line-up masterfully services diverse applications within this important weight category. Mirroring its lighter N Series sibling, the 4-cylinder F Series achieves its market success through sheer versatility.

The offering includes Crew Cab and a selection of wheelbase options plus two rear suspension options, delivering fit-for-purpose road transport flexibility to Australian industry.

Engines

Across the F Series range, there’s two Japanese-made engines that provide the grunt behind the lineup.

The primary power source for the entire range is a pPNLT variant of the Isuzu 4HK1 power plant. FRR, FRD, FSR, and FSD models use the 4HK1-TCH, a lightweight, high-torque, and fuel-efficient engine rated at 240 PS. For the 4x4 FSS model four-cylinder powerplant: a unique 4HK1-TCS is selected, which produces 210 PS.

To meet the now mandated ADR80/04 regulation, the F Series 4HK1, emission levels are achieved through an advanced post-Post New Long Term (pPNLT) Japanese based standard using a combination of after-treatment systems, new to the range in 2025.

This system combines a Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD) to capture particulate matter with a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) unit to mitigate nitrogen oxides (NOx). The introduction of a dosing unit injects AdBlue, which chemically reduces harmful NOx emissions, resulting in a final exhaust output composed predominantly of an inert mix of water vapour and nitrogen gas.

Transmissions

The F Series transmission lineup is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of Australian operations, from urban freight delivery to specialised applications.

A selection of sophisticated transmissions ensures optimal performance, driver comfort, and operational efficiency across all 4-cylinder F Series models.

Isuzu's robust six-speed manual transmission is available across select models and remains a preferred choice for tipper and 4x4 applications. The precise manual control it affords is essential for managing steep descents, tricky off-road terrain, and precise low-speed manoeuvring, giving operators maximum command over engine braking and rev ranges.

Complementing this, Isuzu's advanced six-speed MZW-6P Automated Manual transmission (AM). This system offers the flexibility of both fully automatic and clutchless manual modes, seamlessly adapting to varying traffic conditions.

A significant engineering feature is its 145 per cent torque converter multiplication, which provides vigorous acceleration from a standstill, enhancing productivity.

Crucially, by eliminating the constant need for clutch operation and manual gear changes, the AM substantially reduces physical workload and mitigates operator fatigue, contributing to improved safety and comfort over longer shifts.

This strategic pairing of durable manual and intelligent two-pedal transmissions ensures that every F Series vehicle delivers not only superior performance and durability but also a refined, driver-centric experience.

A vastly updated safety suite sits at the heart of the MY25 F Series range.

Safety

In 2025, Isuzu has engineered the F Series with a paramount focus on enhancing safety for all road users, from occupants and pedestrians to other vehicle operators.

Building upon its class-leading Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which utilises a combination of a dual-lens camera and millimetre-wave long range radar plus two short range radars on 4x2 models, the F Series introduces a suite of additional safety features. Every model in the lineup now benefits from a comprehensive safety suite incorporating up to twelve active and passive systems.

F Series ADAS camera & radar system.

The ‘active’ system is powered by a strategically positioned ADAS camera, now mounted low on the windscreen for optimal visibility, and a long-range millimetre-wave radar located in the centre of the bumper assembly. On 4x2 models, a subtly positioned short-range radar is integrated into each headlamp assembly.

Key camera-specific functions include Lane Departure Warning, Attention Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition with an Intelligent Speed Limiter, and Adaptive Driving Beam.

When the camera and radar data come together, they enable critical combined functions such as a Distance Warning System, Advanced Emergency Braking, and Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control on selected models. Further capability of system includes intersection warning and front cross traffic alert on on-road 4x2 models.

This sophisticated array of active features is complemented by robust passive safety systems, including driver and front passenger airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners, an ECE R-29 compliant crash-rated cab, and anti-intrusion bars within the doors, providing a foundational layer of occupant protection.

Performance, flexibility and driver comfort.

Laser focus

Another key trait common amongst the entire Isuzu range is an entirely re-designed cabin exterior and interior, applying a laser focus to driver comfort and wellbeing.

According to Mr White, this in concert with the vast array of innovative improvements to these stalwart models, developing a blueprint for operational success, efficiency and talent retention.

“We know how critical this segment is to operators and indeed, to the overall functioning of Australia’s supply chain.

“That’s why with this release, there’s been a heavy weighting towards not only optimum performance and flexibility but also a steadfast focus on driver comfort, safety and wellbeing.

“As we know, without a driving workforce, Australia just stops, so we’ve been extremely conscious of developing a solution in this space that promotes and elevates a safe and relaxed driving environment.”
