Isuzu's Bold Future Vision Takes Shape at Tokyo Mobility Show

Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) have welcomed parent company, Isuzu Group’s, world-leading innovation stance, following the global unveiling of the Isuzu Motors Group’s advanced technology showcase at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
‘Move the World, Envision a Colorful Future,’ was the global group’s theme this year, aiming to, ‘convey the power of transport,’ by also incorporating, ‘the spirit of diverse mobility solutions.’
What’s hot
A centrepiece of Isuzu’s presence in 2025 is a powerful vision for carbon neutrality with the practical ‘Multi-Fuel Engine’ (MFE) concept, demonstrating a single, robust engine platform capable of running on diesel, biofuel, synthetic fuel, or hydrogen.
This was presented alongside the world premiere of the next-generation Isuzu’s heavy-duty GIGA prime mover, a signal of the future design and capability of the world’s last remaining truck-exclusive manufacturer.
Not just conceptual
Andrew Harbison, Director and Chief Operating Officer at IAL, commented on the significance of the announcements and the Isuzu innovation trajectory.
“The Japan Mobility Show is particularly informative for us in Australia, to see first-hand the Isuzu Group showcase in 2025 and engage with our Japanese counterparts.
“As always, there’s plenty of thought-provoking concepts on show this year, from a number of OEMs, but some of the developments showcased are not just conceptual, they’re a clear and practical roadmap for our industry’s transition,” Mr Harbison said.
“Isuzu’s Multi-Fuel Engine is an idea that caught our attention some time ago, and it’s a great example of Isuzu’s pragmatic and innovative approach.
“It acknowledges that the path to a low-carbon future will vary by region and requires flexible solutions that leverage existing refuelling infrastructures.
“For a demanding market like Australia, where reliability and operational range are non-negotiable, this technology offers a compelling potential pathway to reduce emissions without compromising the performance our customers depend on,” he added.

Multi-Fuel Engine
Unveiled for the first time at this week’s Mobility Show, Isuzu’s Multi-Fuel Engine concept is engineered to provide a versatile and realistic solution for decarbonisation.
The premise centres around a base engine that can be adapted to utilise a range of cleaner fuels, aimed at offering a bridge technology that mitigates risk for transport operators.
The approach allows businesses to choose a fuel type based on local availability, cost, and their specific sustainability goals, all while relying on the renowned durability and efficiency of an Isuzu powertrain.

Next-Generation GIGA
Another more familiar product name and linage making its global debut in Tokyo was the new Isuzu GIGA heavy-duty prime mover.
Sporting a bold, futuristic design and a clear indication of the technology set to define the next era of Isuzu trucks, the new, fresh-faced GIGA captured plenty of attention.
The design previews advancements in aerodynamics, driver ergonomics, and integrated systems, all of which align with the brand’s commitment to providing commercial vehicle operators with the most efficient, safe, and productive vehicles on the road.
“The new GIGA’s premiere was a landmark moment for Isuzu globally and with the acquisition of UD Trucks now complete, helps to re-position the global brand as having a compelling heavy-duty offer,” Mr Harbison stated.
“It gives the world a glimpse into the future of Isuzu’s heavy-duty line-up, combining Isuzu’s signature aesthetics with a new generation of intelligent design. We’re looking closely at this space to consider exactly what solution best suits Australia’s unique and challenging conditions.”

Mobility solutions
As far as concepts go, Isuzu rarely disappoints and 2025 is no exception with the brand also showcasing the futuristic Vertical Core Cycle Concept (VCCC) in Tokyo.
Premised on the notion of a new era of mobility solutions, Isuzu’s VCCC presents the idea of a vehicle with a unique vertical frame, known as the ‘Vertical Core.’
Conceived as a shared platform, the VCCC is designed to be compatible with a wide range of configurations, adaptable to many different applications. Its modular concept would allow vehicles to be rearranged in units of key components, which enables highly flexible and efficient operation.

Innovation on show
Representing IAL’s enduring focus on the strategic planning that will underpin the operation’s ongoing local success, Chief Strategy Officer, Kylie Barlin, commented on the broader innovation approach sign posted as part of the Isuzu presence.
“It’s encouraging to see some of the forward thinking flowing through from our parent company, but to also get a read on where some of our competitors’ heads are at too,” Mrs Barlin noted.
“Ultimately, concept ideas such as the vertical core are about offering users unprecedented freedom and adaptable mobility solutions – a key focal point of Isuzu Group’s future-focussed outlook.
“It’s a fascinating time to be a part of the broader mobility space right now. Never before in the history of our industry have we seen such a proliferation of both technological and behavioural change applied to this space.
“It’s evolving rapidly, and it’s great to have Isuzu truly at the forefront of this thinking.”
