Isuzu Leads with Frontline Capability at AFAC26

Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) will bring a targeted display of emergency response equipment to AFAC 2026, demonstrating how the latest application designed and engineered models from the market leader deliver safer, more effective operations across Australia’s emergency services sector.

Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre from 18 to 21 August, AFAC26 is Australasia’s largest emergency management conference and exhibition.

This year’s theme, “Leading Together: Integrity, Inclusion and Impact”, will explore how ethical, inclusive leadership can strengthen innovation, community trust and frontline outcomes.

Leading together

For Isuzu, the theme reflects the long-practiced approach the company has to its product development and engineering with events such as AFAC featuring the coming together of key collaborators in the emergency services agencies, frontline crews, fleet teams, engineers, specialist body builders, and Isuzu dealers and product experts.

“Emergency response capability is built through genuine cooperation, shared expertise and a clear understanding of what crews face in the field,” said IAL’s Head of Sales, Craig White.

“AFAC gives us the opportunity to listen directly to the people who specify, operate and maintain this specialist equipment, and to display how we reflect and incorporate that feedback in our product development and design.”

On stand

Isuzu will exhibit at Stand 238 throughout the event and will also sponsor the AFAC26 Welcome Function in the exhibition hall on Tuesday 18 August.

The stand will feature the Isuzu light truck off-road performer, the NQS 80-175 4x4 with two models on display – in crew and single cab configurations, and from the Isuzu Power Solutions (IPS) stable, the GS012-ETT 12 kVA ‘Little Genny’ generator set and an Isuzu industrial pump engine configured for emergency services and firefighting applications.

NQS 4x4

At the centre of the display will be two stalwarts of countless emergency service and remote disaster response fleets, an N Series 4x4 truck. For AFAC 2026, Isuzu is showcasing the all-new NQS 80-175 4x4, in both crew and single cab form.

Rated at 8,000 kg GVM, the NQS is powered by Isuzu’s four-cylinder 4JZ1-TCH engine, producing 129 kW at 2,680 rpm and 460 Nm from 1,500 to 2,680 rpm.

In the NQS the 4JZ1 is mated to the impressive Isuzu nine-speed MYR-9R dual-clutch transmission, offering fully automatic and clutchless manual operation – a boon for volunteer fleets with a diverse driving pool.

The NQS part-time four-wheel drive system combines direct High range with a 2.14:1 Low range, providing surefooted momentum for the difficult terrain often faced by Australian fire and rescue crews.

The crew cab provides seating for up to seven crew, including a four-person rear bench, while the single cab offers a lighter tare weight for applications with greater payload demands.

Both units share a 3,395 mm wheelbase and a 14-metre kerb-to-kerb turning circle, supporting manoeuvrability in regional towns, tight access points on off-road tracks and field environments.

The NQS also carries Isuzu’s full suite of driver assistance systems keeping crews safe both on the way to a job and whilst in the midst of the action.

This includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Advanced Emergency Braking, Electronic Stability Control, Lane Departure Warning, Attention Alert System and Traffic Sign Recognition. Driver and front passenger airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and an ECE-R29 cab with side anti-intrusion beams add further protection.

“The new NQS brings together the right payload-to-driveline mix for local fire applications.

“It has serious off-road ability and right mix of features and specifications our emergency fleets need,” Mr White said. ​

“This ease of use and the familiarity of the Isuzu approach to vehicle design and operation, means that the vehicle is simple to use and approachable for a diverse driver group.

“When the activate safety suite and cabin technology is taken into account, you have a powerful offer that the fire agencies and their body builders can tailor to their specific requirements for teams, equipment and operational roles.”

Portable power, flexible operation

Another product highlight on stand this year is the all-new Isuzu Power Solutions (IPS) GS012-ETT generator, set to bring feature-packed Isuzu diesel power to emergency response, staging and recovery work for the first time in 2026.

The compact three-phase unit provides 12.1 kVA prime output and 13.3 kVA standby output, with a minimum 10.5-hour runtime from its 40-litre fuel tank.

“A key deliverable in the development of these models was providing more usable power, longer operating time, simplified installation options and advanced electrical protection features, all within a compact, site-ready package,” Mr White said.

“Reliable power remains essential well beyond the initial response, particularly when disaster or weather outages affect communications, lighting, refrigeration, pumping and recovery facilities,” Mr White said.

“The new GS012-ETT is compact, transportable and designed to give emergency services flexible, well-protected power wherever it’s required.”

In further product from the IPS stable, the stand will showcase a 3CA1PZ01 4-cycle diesel engine in one of the most-suited applications for this model – truck-mounted pumping duties.

Capability & support

Isuzu product and technical specialists will be available throughout the exhibition in Melbourne to discuss vehicle selection, body integration, power requirements and aftersales support.

Isuzu Service Technical Manager (NSW/ ACT), Jeff Berry, will also present, “Stronger Together: Isuzu Capability That Delivers When It Matters Most,” in the Solutions Theatre, examining the role of aftersales support in sustaining frontline capabilities.

“As always, we’re excited to meet agencies, operators and industry partners at AFAC26 and continue the work of strengthening Australia’s emergency response capacity,” Mr White said.

“Of course, this isn’t just another trade show for Isuzu - AFAC is a key event for us every year and an opportunity to showcase the know-how and product backup that has seen us top the market charts here for the past 37 years.
