Giant Killer: Redefined Isuzu FY Series Shakes Up Heavy-Duty Race

Isuzu’s hugely popular, heavy-hitting MY25 FY Series line-up is officially on sale across the country as part of the brand’s highly anticipated second phase model roll-out.
Consisting of six model variants under the FYH and FYJ nomenclature, the release rounds-out the brand’s heavy-duty offering, presenting in an ultra-competitive market segment with a fresh new, end-to-end solution for some of Australia’s toughest transport assignments.
Perched at the 32,000-kilogram Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) limit and offering a range of wheelbase options, the versatile 8x4 FY line-up is back better than ever, sporting a new Euro VI based powerplant meeting ADR80/04, a brand-new cab, a first-in-class safety package and much more.

Buoyed by the announcement was Isuzu Australia Limited’s (IAL) Head of Sales, Craig White, who stressed the significance of the model range for a host of Australian operators.
“Going back over a decade since its inception in 2012, the FY Series has gained a loyal following amongst a range of Australian industry, from concrete mixing to waste, utilities and excavation.
“It’s carved out quite a niche for itself over the years and continues to perform admirably against some of its heavyweight brand competitors in that market segment,” Mr White noted.
“With this release, we can say unequivocally that the FY Series offers a highly competitive spec at its price-point and presents a compelling value-proposition for heavy-duty operators.”

Range
Beginning with the FYH, there’s two variants available in both 5.8 and 6.0 metre wheelbase incarnations – the FYH 320-355 AT R58 (5,770 mm) and FYH 320-355 AT R60 (6,010 mm).
There are four FYJ models in the group which include several wheelbase options, from a shorter 5,080 mm variant, up-to the extra-long wheelbase FYJ 320-355 AT R67 model at 6,700 mm.
Suitable for a range of tasks, all models within the FY lineup share a GVM of 32,000 kilograms. Also found on the FV Series and common across all 2025 FY models, are the higher-capacity Meritor MFS73 steer axle/s (with EBS disc brakes), delivering to an additional 500 kilograms of legal capacity in accordance with recently introduced ADR 80/04 (Euro VI) emissions mass limits increase.
Engines
Applying across the FY range, Isuzu’s tried and tested 6-cylinder, direct injection 6UZ1-TCC powerplant has evolved in 2025, now with a new power and torque delivery of 259 kW @ 2,000 rpm and torque rating of 1,437 Nm @ 1,400 rpm.
In other enhancements, this new Euro-VI 6UZ1 engine variant has an advanced emission control system, deploying Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR), a Diesel Particulate Diffuser (DPD and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR). All of this is combined to meet the new mandatory ADR80/04 emission levels now required in Australia.

Transmissions
In-line with market demand, all FY models are exclusively mated to the Allison HD4430 heavy-duty Automatic transmission, designed for demanding on-highway and off-highway applications and known for its durability and performance.
Featuring a one-stage, three-element, polyphase torque converter for smooth power transfer, the HD4430 uses 6th generation electronic controls for adaptive shifting, superior acceleration, startability and vehicle control.
Combined with the new MY25 ISUZU electrical architecture and communication system, the engine and transmission work seamlessly to interface the powertrain and provide an efficient drive and safe retardation control when needed.
With Isuzu Australia selling the largest number of Allison-equipped trucks outside of North America, the next level shifting controls, proven economy and durability of the Allison product speaks for itself.
Safety
The FY Series offers a complete safety ecosystem, integrating up to 12 active and passive systems for comprehensive driver confidence and occupant protection.
This is made possible thanks to Isuzu’s enhanced Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), which pairs a low-mounted windscreen camera with a bumper-integrated long-range radar. This powerful combination delivers a suite of intelligent features.
The camera independently handles functions like Lane Keep Assist and Adaptive Driving Beam, while the amalgamated dual optical sensor system data enables life-saving technologies like Advanced Emergency Braking and Full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control.
This proactive safety net is complemented by robust passive protection, including multiple SRS airbags, a crash-rated cab, and reinforced door bars, ensuring protection in just about every scenario.

It's on!
Already punching well above its weight in the hard-fought heavy-duty market segment, Isuzu’s FY range continues its evolution as an extremely well specified, cost-efficient transport solution at the heavier end of the weight spectrum.
Now in market with an all-new, driver-centric cabin with improved ergonomics, a highly regarded safety suite, and the sort of performance efficiencies Isuzu’s become renowned for, the heavy-duty sales race just got a whole lot more interesting.
“We have every confidence our customers’ needs and wants in the heavy-duty space will continue be met and indeed exceeded with this latest release,” Mr White stated.
“As an independent truck maker, Isuzu continues to compete successfully against the world's largest and most well-funded automotive groups.
“The introduction of our now complete MY25 heavy-duty range positions us to compete at the forefront of the industry, potentially rivalling the market’s established leaders sooner than anticipated.”
