Isuzu Raises the Bar with All-New N Series AWD & 4x4 Range

Isuzu Australia Limited (IAL) has unveiled its all-new MY25 N Series AWD and 4x4 truck range, introducing a comprehensive update to one of Australia’s most proven and respected light truck off-road platforms.

Building on decades of real-world service across emergency response, utilities, mining, local government and remote operations, the MY25 range represents the most significant advancement yet for Isuzu’s off-road capable light-duty truck line-up.

The refreshed range introduces upgraded powertrains, expanded transmission availability, major safety enhancements, improved driver comfort and a broader spread of vocational capability across both All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and four-wheel-drive (4x4) N Series truck models.

Featuring tried and tested AWD models, now in NMS guise, alongside the latest NPS and an all new NQS 4x4 variant, the range is engineered specifically to meet the demanding and varied conditions faced by Australian operators.

A major evolution: '...these trucks have earned a reputation for reliability, durability and genuine operational capability.'

The best just got better

IAL Head of Sales, Craig White, said the new line-up represented a major evolution of a product range already deeply embedded within Australia’s vocational transport landscape.

“The Isuzu off-road story in Australia has been built over decades in some of the harshest operating environments imaginable,” said Mr White.

“From emergency services and remote-area support through to mining, infrastructure and regional industries, these trucks have earned a reputation for reliability, durability and genuine operational capability.

“With the MY25 N Series 4x4 and AWD range, we’ve raised the bar again, delivering higher levels of safety, improved performance, broader transmission choice and enhanced driver comfort, while staying true to the rugged dependability customers expect from Isuzu.”

Isuzu 4x4 trucks have formed the backbone of countless emergency response fleets nationwide.

Storied history

Australia has played a pivotal role in the evolution of Isuzu’s off-road truck offering, with local operating conditions and customer requirements helping shape the development of several global Isuzu platforms over many years.

Among the most recognised examples is the popular NPS line-up, which has become one of Australia’s most widely adopted four-wheel-drive light trucks, particularly within emergency services and remote operations.

For decades, Isuzu 4x4 trucks have formed the backbone of countless emergency response fleets nationwide, including rural and volunteer fire services, SES organisations and disaster recovery units, where payload capability, manoeuvrability and dependable performance are critical.

The mining and resources sectors have also played a major role in establishing the Isuzu 4x4 range throughout Australia, with operators valuing the platform’s durability, serviceability and suitability for remote and punishing environments.

Moving with change

According to Mr White, evolving customer expectations continue to broaden the appeal and application scope of the range.

“Today’s off-road commercial truck market is far more diverse than it once was,” he said.

“We’re seeing growing demand from telecommunications, renewable energy, construction, regional freight and specialist service industries, alongside strong growth in expedition and off-grid recreational applications.

“Customers are looking for vehicles that can comfortably transition between urban environments and remote worksites, while still delivering strong payload, safety and whole-of-life ownership value.”

The range

AWD models

The N Series AWD line-up orbits around Isuzu’s proven NMS model, available in both a car driver’s licence friendly 4,500 kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) and also an “LR licence required” 6,500 kg variant, both available in single and crew cab configurations.

Replacing the models previously sold only at 4,500 kg GVM as NLS, this new and improved NMS all-road unit comes mated with Isuzu’s advanced new MYR9 9-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DT), with precise, consistent shifts designed to minimise drivetrain shock and wear, extending clutch life and reduce maintenance costs. A 5-speed manual configuration remains available for those choosing to shift gears themselves.

Showcasing the model’s versatility is a range of well specified Ready-to-Work models in addition to the cab chassis variants. The MY25 NMS is available in Traypack, Tipper and Servicepack-X configurations.

4x4 models

Across the pure 4x4 grouping, there’s two N Series variants now available, with GVM rating matched to the transmission type used.

Familiar to many, the NPS 4x4 returns in 2026, but this time with more power and torque while retaining a 7,500 kg GVM rating, and available in both single and crew cab chassis formats. The model of choice for many recreational builds, its proven reliability and off-road performance is nothing short of legendary.

Operators will appreciate the increased power now available in the NPS 75-174 4x4 models, as well as an additional ratio in the standard Isuzu manual transmission. The previous model NPS had a robust 5-speed transmission, while the new model features a 6-speed unit with improved ratio spread and smaller gaps between each gear.

The all-new NQS 80-175 4x4 model hits hits a true sweet spot for multi-driver fleets.

Moving up in capacity, there’s the all-new NQS 80-175 4x4 model (at 8,000 kg GVM), well suited to a range of end uses within the emergency services, mining and remote field services sectors.

A genuine eight-tonne factory platform, the addition of Isuzu’s all-new patented two-pedal, 9-speed dual clutch transmission in the NQS hits a true sweet spot for multi-driver fleets who demand faultless performance and ease of use in difficult terrain.

Isuzu’s 4JZ1-TCS engine producing 150 PS and 430 Nm of torque.

Engines

At the core of the MY25 upgrade program is Isuzu’s latest 4JZ1 engine family, now standardised across the AWD and 4x4 range.

New NMS AWD models are powered by Isuzu’s 4JZ1-TCS engine producing 150 PS and 430 Nm of torque, while NPS and NQS 4x4 variants receive the higher-output 4JZ1-TCH powerplant, generating 175 PS and 460 Nm. All models now come equipped with a new exhaust after-treatment system, complying with ADR 80/04 (pPNLT) emissions standards.

Transmissions

A major addition to the line-up is expanded transmission availability, with Isuzu’s new MYR9 9-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DT) now introduced across both NMS AWD and NQS 4x4 applications.

This transmission represents a significant leap forward from conventional designs. By keeping engine RPM low, the MYR9 directly enhances fuel economy and reduces cabin noise on the highway, especially when compared to the previously available 5-speed manual transmissions in superseded models. Further, the additional ratios provide superior off-road functionality, where the right gear for most situations is only an instant away.

Its patented dual-clutch structure is the core of its performance, enabling full-power, milli-second upshifts that drastically reduce torque loss for seamless acceleration and even incorporates intelligent skip-shifting for faster acceleration when conditions allow.

The NMS AWD range is available with either manual or DT options, while the new NQS 4x4 adopts the 9-speed DT as standard equipment. The NPS continues with a manual transmission configuration for specialised off-road tasks.

Both 4x4 models receive a new transfer case, with improved power transfer between axles, meaning more traction and torque multiplication for steep climbs, heavy towing, or deep muddy ruts.

Safety

Safety and driver support technologies have also been significantly enhanced as part of the MY25 update.

Across the AWD and 4x4 range, customers benefit from upgraded active, intelligent safety systems, improved braking performance with disc brakes now standard, and additional stability, cruise, lane departure and autonomous sensor-based safety tech across applicable models.

Cabin

The entire MY25 range introduces bold, refreshed interior and exterior styling, auto climate control, enhanced cabin amenity and improved crew cab comfort, including rear cooling provisions on all crew cab variants.

Driving position and visibility have also been further enhanced as part of the model change – a key feature of the Isuzu driving experience.

Adding the convenience and ease of use is the addition of Isuzu’s new Passive Entry and Start System or PESS on DT models, whereby users can simply press the ‘unlock’ icon on the key fob and the cabin is unlocked with first-stage ignition activated automatically.

Ready-to-Work

Further strengthening the range’s vocational appeal is the continued expansion of Isuzu’s Ready-to-Work offering across AWD and 4x4 applications.

Available in selected single and crew cab variants, the pre-bodied Ready-to-Work line-up includes the NQS 75-175 4x4 Servicepack-X (field service) variant and in the AWD category, the NMS 65/45-150 provides the platform for Traypack, Tipper and Servicepack-X configurations, allowing customers to access factory-backed application-specific solutions directly from the dealership floor.

Local knowledge

Mr White said the range reflected Isuzu’s ongoing focus on delivering practical, fit-for-purpose products tailored to local requirements.

“Australian operators demand practical engineering, long-term durability and trucks capable of performing day in, day out in challenging conditions,” he said.

“Our MY25 AWD and 4x4 range has been developed with exactly those expectations in mind.

“Importantly, this is also a uniquely Australian success story. Local feedback and operating experience have directly influenced the evolution of these vehicles over many years, helping create products genuinely suited to tough Australian conditions.”
